The Masters Leaderboard – Rory McIlroy Wins a Sudden Death Playoff

Rory McIlroy turned another Masters collapse into a major victory in a sudden-death playoff on Sunday. The Northern Irishman birdied the first hole of sudden death to win his fifth green jacket at Augusta and join Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen as a career Grand Slam winner.

Justin Rose held on to the solo lead he captured in the first round at The Masters after shooting a 1-under 71 on Friday, his lowest second-round score at Augusta. But a flurry of players are closing the gap, including two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who shot a 4-under 68 to sit in second place at 8 under. Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners, Jason Day, Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg are all within five shots of the leader heading into the weekend.

The top 50 players and ties, plus the top 15 in each of the three majors, will advance to the final two rounds. That means a number of players who struggled to make the cut are still in contention, with one such example being 20-year-old Australian amateur Dylan Thomas, who fired a two-under 69 and is tied for eighth place at six under. Another potential contender is defending champion Patrick Reed, who shot a 66 on Friday to move into a tie for sixth at four under.
