The Asian Games, also known as the Asiad and officially the 20th Asian Games, will be held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Games are the biggest sports competition in Asia, organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The inaugural Asian Games were held in 1951, shortly after World War II, with the aim to reestablish bonds among Asian countries through sports and contribute to world peace by recognizing diversity. The Games are contested by athletes from 45 member nations and regions affiliated with OCA.
The esports events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are expected to be stronger than those at Hangzhou 2023, where medals were awarded in seven of the 11 esports titles (Arena of Valor, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms, League of Legends, PUBG and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition). At this point, it is unclear which esports will be included at the next Asian Games.
Transport to and from the Games venues is available through the Nagoya metropolitan transportation system, which includes JR lines (Tokaido Shinkansen, Chuo Main Line, etc.), Kintetsu Railway, Meitetsu Railway and private bus lines. The Aichi-Nagoya Organising Committee will be formulating a comprehensive transport plan to enable smooth movements for visitors, athletes and media members.
Japan is a familiar host of the Asian Games, with the previous Games being held in Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. This will be the third time that the country has hosted the Games, and the Aichi-Nagoya Games are expected to further deepen growing exchange within Asia.
